The past week has flown by again, like time does here. I can’t believe I’ve been here for 2 months already now, it seems like yesterday that I arrived! Anyway, my birthday was fabulous, as you can tell from the pictures the house was full of cool people and everyone seemed to have a good time. The wine and apple pie disappeared in no-time, although many people brought red wine so my wine rack is still as full as before my birthday, probably fuller even 🙂 The first few days after my birthday I tried to get rid of the chocolate cake by eating it for breakfast, although I still had to throw away some. If only Hans, Sara and Frank had been here, they would have made it disappear in no time!
I was pretty tired last week so most evenings I took it easy. On Wednesday I watched “The Holiday”, which was quite pleasant. Last Thursday it was Thanksgiving, Jon and Lorelei had taken it upon them to organise “Thanksgiving for Foreigners” which was a huge success. They provided the traditional turkey and some traditional accompanying dishes such as squash and all the guests brought something traditional from their home country, so we ended up with a huge German, Indian, Chinese (I think it was Chinese anyway), Bulgarian, Romanian & Dutch meal. At some point part of the group (including moi) decided to go to the cinema in Santa Monica to watch Beowulf in 3D (yes, with silly glasses), which was pretty cool (not the best film I’ve ever seen, but certainly entertaining). In the cinema there was already a big poster of Atonement, which premieres here on Dec. 7. I do hope the presence of the poster means it will be in the cinema where I was, because it’s pretty close from where I live.
On Friday I lazed about a bit, as it was a bit of a holiday. Late in the afternoon I cycled around a bit and ended up in Santa Monica where I browsed around the shops for a bit. On Saturday I slept in, did my grocery shopping, signed up for yoga, walked along the beach and took a long bath with a good book (“Perfume” by Patrick Süskind). Sunday started early with yoga (I don’t think I ever sweated so much in my life and today I’m aching all over!!!). The class was good although a bit too big, which made my yoga-experience less pleasant. I’m going to attend a few more classes the next few weeks and then decide whether I’m going to continue there…On the way home from yoga I completed this weeks food shopping on the farmer’s market by stocking up on fresh vegetables and the afternoon was spent chatting to mum and my uncles for a bit, a short surf session in crap waves, a hot shower and a stroll along Main Street where I found this really cool gadget shop (where I got the box with 50 cards each containing a walk in/around LA) and an amazing bead shop. Early in the evening I went to the Venice drum circle again where my housemate was too. A guy first tried to chat her up, than me, and when I left, he went for her again. He kind of induced an allergic reaction towards men with me as he got annoyed & annoying when I told him I wasn’t interested in going out with him. Luckily dinner with Jerié (who made some excellent shrimp) and Laura (who made some excellent asparagus) cheered me up again.
