I’m not sure how I ended up on your web site but I noticed that there was spam on this page [http://www.merpel.nl/wordpress/?author=1&paged=34]. I thought I’d mention it in case you weren’t aware of it. I’m spending part of my holiday vacation fixing a similar problem on one of my web sites, but it’s a MediaWiki site not a WordPress blog.

Wat grappig om via jouw weblog toch een beetje op de hoogte te blijven hoe het jou vergaat en welke leuke dingen je allemaal onderneemt!
Vorige week met vriendinnen in oude foto-boeken gedoken en toen kwamen de foto’s van de muscials op de kse weer voorbij. Genoeg aanleiding dus om weer even een kijkje op je weblog te nemen. Las dat je gaat trouwen, leuk! gefeliciteerd! Wens jullie een hele mooie dag toe. Hoop uiteraard dat je naderhand wel wat foto’s op je weblog plaatst ;-)

Here are some guys who can tell you more eloquently than I why not (the word “odious” occurs).

I bought Style: Ten Lessons in Clarity and Grace and found it excellent, but it’s expensive and a bit hard to track down, as well as having lots of editions with I think quite variable content. The Language Log guys are recommending Style: Toward Clarity and Grace instead (same author, somewhat more recent I think).

The biggest problem with S&W is that the advice is either too general or too specific; on grammar it’s too specific (and sometimes just plain wrong, which gets Pullum all worked up), while on style it’s general enough that you can’t figure out how to apply it unless you don’t actually need it in the first place. Style talks a lot about how to revise, which is really really handy.
