Hi, I don’t know your first name. Was looking for a translation of the term goudreinetten and stumbled on your website. I was born in The Netherlands and came here to go to graduate school at UCLA in the mid-sixties. Stayed. Imagine I am emeritus professor at USC!!! An elderly woman now–although of course I don’t feel old. Raeding your blog, I recognize myself encountering California– I was 26 at the time, a graduate student in what is now called Neuroscience at UCLA. The weather and the beauty of this state–the wealth around, especially on the West side. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Cool, awesome, although those words were not much in use then. I still love California. I return often to the Netherlands. Have good friends there from my undergraduate work in Utrecht, some in Amsterdam, a great city. In your town, Tilburg, I believe there is a statue of an old-old uncle, Msgr Zwijsen, an old uncle of my Mom. She died last year @ 102.Enjoy your time here. Warm regards from a Dutch woman who came here before you, stayed and never regretted it. Toke Hoppenbrouwers
